A nostalgic tribute to Mrs Banks on IWD

Today that the International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide, I’m going to tell you about one of my favourite childhood films: Mary Poppins. But it’s not about the perfect nanny with the magic powers that I want to write about, it is about the mother, Mrs Banks. If you haven’t watched the film again as an adult you may not remember that she was a sufragette: a member of Emmeline Pankhurst‘s suffragette movement. That was the reason why she was hardly ever at home. It’s not that she neglected her children, she was fighting for the women’s right to vote!

Here you can watch her in the film singing Sister Sufragette
